Gogol Bordello @ The Cabooze 6/12

Gogol Bordello is a New York based band whose music is best described, well really can only be described as gypsy punk. They formed in New York City, but all but one are not from America. Hailing from such faraway locales as Ukraine, Ecuador, Russia, Israel Japan, and Ethiopia, the band obviously has a multicultural musical feel to it. Still the predominant sound is eastern European punk, with a flamboyant flair of performance art and violin and accordian prominently featured.

There were up to 9 people on stage at once on the Cabooze's outdoor stage, and all played with intensity and vigor. The two female dancers/singers/percussionists came and went from the stage, each time showing up in new costumes with different instruments. Euguene Hutz, singer and founder of the band, is a brilliantly entertaining and energetic frontman, his guitar rocking a sticker that said "Drum machines have no soul". Word Eugene.

I found this awesome and gritty footage of the encore after dark that bohemianrhapsodi posted on youtube. Turn the volume down a bit and nevermind the bounciness, it's like you're there, right in front, man!

That gives you an idea of the intensity of the stage show, but it does not represent how fantastic the music is. Here is a really cool video of Eugene before the show at the Cabooze on the tour bus. Thanks 10000 Beats for posting this.

Go see Gogol Bordello as soon as possible.
